Get to know Hootsuite

Hootsuite’s primary selling point is the ability to schedule all your social media posts in bulk. After you set up the different accounts you want to use, you can send the same message to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more at specific times in the future without having to futz about with each individual app on your phone. And (with the exception of Instagram, whose API doesn’t allow this) all your scheduled posts go live automatically at the time you set.

Once you've queued stuff in Hootsuite, you can see all of your posts in a content calendar and see which gaps need filled. Then, with Hootsuite's analytics, you can track all your different posts across social media, with details about your overall audience and follower count, the engagement with your post, and how well your posts are doing across each platform. With Hootsuite’s link shorteners, you can even track how often followers click on your shared links.

On Business level accounts, you can export all these analytics and send the information to your higher-ups, so they can see the progress as well. But if your higher-ups want to be a part of Hootsuite, you can simply invite them to create an account and join your team.

Once your boss (or colleagues) are on Hootsuite with you, this opens up a whole realm of possibilities. My favourite feature is the ability to create an approval chain. If your job is creating social media messages, but your manager wants to approve them before they go live, that’s no problem. You can set up an approval chain, which works exactly how you’d imagine it. You schedule the post, but it doesn’t “go live” until it’s been approved by the responsible person in the chain.

You can also monitor all your different social media feeds to look for certain words or phrases in your timeline. If you want to be notified every time somebody mentions your product, hashtag, or business name on social media, you can do that. (With features like that, you’re only one clever idea away from your own “#shotoniPhone” campaign.)

And finally, Hootsuite also lets you run contests. They let you run a wide range of different content types, like sweepstakes, caption contests, photo contests, quizzes, and typical sign up campaigns. And just like your regular posts, you can use Hootsuite’s built-in tools to analyze how well your contests are going and react quickly to changes.

All of this makes Hootsuite more than just a scheduling tool that combines all your social networks. With Hootsuite, you’ll have all the tools you’ll need to grow your audience, work with your team, and impress the boss with your social media ROI.
