How we evaluate and test apps
Our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. Unless explicitly stated, we spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. To find the best business card scanning app, I started by compiling a list of basically every option out there. I then downloaded each app, set up my accounts, and tested each one with two business cards: one with a simple design that I knew should be easy for any solid app to scan, and one with a busy layout that I thought might trip up even the best options.Â
From there, I assessed each app against the following criteria:
Accuracy. Whether or not names, emails, phone numbers, and any other information listed on the cards were captured correctly.
Ease of use. How intuitive the app was to navigate.
Contact storage. How the app handles contact management.
Integration and sharing options. The amount and variety of options available for exporting or syncing contacts with other platforms, such as email clients and CRMs.
AI features. Not just asking "does this app use AI or not?" but determining whether AI elevates the app's capabilities in a significant or unique way.
Organization. The ability to organize, tag, and group contacts as desired.
Active development. There are a lot of great business card scanner apps that don't seem to be under active development anymore (see: ABBYY and BizConnect). I prioritized apps that were up to date with operating systems and other customer needs.
Additionally, I looked for apps that had special features, such as multi-card capture, design suites, and company contact management capabilities.

CamCard has been on this list for years, but this year, it's my favorite. The developers have made some significant improvements to the scanning accuracy and speed since I started using the app a few years ago.Â
One thing that helps the scanning experience feel more polished is the app's processing system. After scanning, cards are sorted into categories like "In Progress," "Finished," and "Failed." Most scans only took about 10 seconds, but it's still nice to have a sense of what's happening behind the scenes, especially if you're scanning multiple cards at once. A completed scan then moves into the Finished category once processing is complete.
Right after scanning a card, the app immediately gives you the option to share your own digital business card, which helps make exchanging contacts more fluid.
CamCard is also the most sophisticated app on this list when it comes to AI-generated summarization. The app's AI assistant, CC, can answer questions about companies and contacts with a ton of detail, including providing information about a company's services, business model, ownership structure, communication suggestions, and more. I also appreciate the transparency in this process: when CamCard generates information, it shows the online sources it pulled from.
CamCard goes above and beyond with its built-in network community. Through its VIP networking feature, users can search for other professionals globally using keywords and exchange digital business cards with other users. Once both parties connect, they can continue communicating through the app's messaging system. I tested it out with searches for broad terms like "travel" and "tech," and thousands of potential contacts came up. It definitely feels like there's a substantial networking ecosystem behind the app, beyond the scanning and contact management.
Other useful features include AI transcription for uploaded or live audio (recordings need to be over a minute for summaries), custom QR codes with 10 different design templates, email signatures, and a video conference card. Analytics also show you how many views, shares, saved cards, and new connections added, along with where the views are coming from (the app, email signature, a shared link, etc).
The app's deduplication feature comes in handy if you've accidentally saved the same contact multiple times. You also get multiple exporting options, like Salesforce, Google Contacts, and Outlook/Office 365 integrations, and you can, of course, export straight to your phone. Overall, CamCard's unique features make it worth considering for anyone who values flexibility and detailed insights.

Getting started is quick and easy, and you can customize a profile photo, cover image, and logo. Popl's AI-powered scanner quickly and accurately digitizes paper business cards, event badges, and QR codes from other digital business card providers. Scanned contacts are organized in the Leads tab, where you can add notes, assign tags, and filter by lead type or date added. And if you enable automatic follow-up emails, Popl will send an email intro to you and your new connection once you've exchanged information. HiHello stands out with a user-friendly and intuitive interface. Right from the start, it guides you through a seamless process of entering your personal details—including your name, title, company, and phone number—to effortlessly create your personalized digital business card. A notable feature of HiHello is the ability to have separate work and personal cards (similar to Haystack) with multiple sharing options, like QR code, email, text, and even Apple Wallet.
Customization is another strong suit of the app. It allows for a variety of personal touches, including color choices, layout designs, logos, and links to social media platforms. It neatly categorizes these platforms into sections like Communication, Payment, and Music, providing options beyond the usual business card staples like LinkedIn and Facebook. You can even add less conventional ones like Venmo, Spotify, and Twitch.
Scanning accuracy is very precise—once you submit a contact's card after scanning, the app uses AI to transcribe it. It takes about 10-15 seconds, and I didn't need to modify any fields, though the app provides the option to review or retake scans if necessary. It also automatically found and added a LinkedIn profile to my scanned contact, helping fill in missing information without manual searching.
You can also send your own card back to a contact after scanning theirs by checking a box. If you want to send it via text message, you have the option to hide your phone number from the contact (if you're texting from the app) or send messages through WhatsApp. There's also an offline QR code option that shares only essential contact information. In offline mode, recipients can view your details but can't send their own information back. And it automatically sorts contacts into work or personal categories post-scan, offering the option to manually change the category.
On the desktop version, HiHello also provides analytics for card views, saves, and engagement over time, with the ability to export data into spreadsheets. Teams can even create searchable company directories containing employee business cards and profiles.
HiHello already syncs with Google Contacts for basic contact management, but when you connect it to Zapier, you can build more sophisticated, multi-step workflows that automate entire contact lifecycles across the rest of your tech stack. Haystack was by far the most advanced app I tested when it comes to contact details. It doesn't just scan and store the information from a business card; it also goes out of its way to find more information on the web. For example, once I scanned my first card, it presented me with a series of company logos associated with the website listed on the card and asked me to pick one. The app even created a digital card from the scan, and it used the colors from the logo as a color scheme for the contact profile. I also love how accessible everything is—you can text, call, email, use Google/Apple Maps, or visit a contact's website right from the app by just pressing the appropriate icons.
Haystack is big on the visuals, so if you like to actually see all your cards instead of just text and names, you'll be happy to see digital representations of all the cards in your deck. You can even create your own digital cards with Haystack—as many as you want, so long as they don't have the same email address. Plus, you can share your cards with others via email, SMS, and QR code. If you needed to, you could also share other people's contact info this way.
The Contact Syncing feature proved to be very useful: it lets you sync any of your Haystack contacts to your phone's contacts app. I was also able to make edits to the contacts after the fact and see those edits updated within my phone's main contacts app—pretty nifty.
If you're looking for a team solution, Haystack's Pro and Business plans also provide CRM integrations, smart email signatures, analytics, and the ability to organize shared contacts across teams. These plans can only be viewed and subscribed to on Haystack's website, not the app, which onboards you with the free version, but you can log in with your premium account.

Covve performs extremely well when it comes to scanning speed and transcription accuracy, with the ability to scan business cards, QR codes, LinkedIn QR profiles, and event badges. When I used this app in recent years, the focus seemed more on full relationship management with manually logging contact interactions and communication history. But the app has scaled its focus to primarily being a scanning and lead-capture tool that integrates with the wider Covve ecosystem.
One standout addition I enjoyed is voice-based contact entry, with this being one of the only apps I tested to offer this feature. It gives you one minute to record a voice note with whichever details you want to include. You can say something along the lines of, "I spoke with [PERSON] who's the [JOB TITLE] at [COMPANY]…" and, in my testing, it did a great job of accurately transcribing the phone number and email.
Covve also gives you some convenience-focused sharing tools. You can add your digital card to Apple Wallet, use it as an email signature, or even create a virtual video call background.
Like a few other apps on this list, the Research with AI feature is useful for generating summaries and even conversation starters based on publicly available news articles and company updates. Covve can also enrich contact profiles with AI by adding LinkedIn accounts and company details automatically. Sharing options are extensive as well, as you can share cards through QR codes, SMS, email, WhatsApp, VCF files, Apple Wallet, and more. On the business side, the premium/business version also supports sharing scanned leads with teammates, and native CRM integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics, and other platforms.
You can also use Zapier's Covve integration to build flexible, multi-step workflows that go well beyond just moving contact data. For example, you can automatically add scanned cards to your CRM, use AI to categorize them, and route leads that meet preset criteria to the right teams. You can also schedule follow-up reminders in your calendar or to-do list app.

The first thing that made Blinq stand out to me are all the time-saving features built into the contact exchange process. Not only is the app fast and accurate with scanning, but once you create a new contact, you can automatically email them your own card. Plus, you can create QR codes for your own business cards, embed those QR codes on websites, brochures, and other marketing materials, and even create multiple digital cards for a variety of uses.
The app offers multiple methods of sharing, including dynamic email signatures, virtual backgrounds, NFC-enabled physical cards, and Apple Watch integrations.Â
My favorite feature was Blinq's AI notetaker, which allows you to record a conversation, transcribe it, and summarize it with AI. CamCard has a similar feature, but Blinq still summarizes the voice note even if it's short. It also shows which contacts were involved in the conversation, which would be especially useful after conferences, sales calls, interviews, or networking events.
Blinq natively syncs with Salesforce, Hubspot, Pipedrive, Zoho, Dynamic 365, Google Workspace, Okta, Outlook, and Microsoft Entry ID. Habsy reels you in with a simple interface and easy navigation, but underneath, it offers some meaty features.Â
Beyond scanning, you can see AI-powered insights about the contact via what Habsy calls Person enrichment. It'll give you a short rundown of who your contact is professionally and where they're located. I also like that the app provides what it calls "conversation starters," a list of five questions that you can steal to restart communication with your contact.
You can also set convenient reminders within the app to reach out to your contacts, and make the reminders time-sensitive so that they notify you on lock screen and Do Not Disturb. To find out more about your contact's company, just click See Company insights within their profile, and the app will generate an overview of the company, including its mission, vision, core values, and services. The overview is organized into structured boxes with headings for easy viewing.
Habsy also includes built-in templates for emails and WhatsApp messages. These templates let you choose the tone from Formal to Informal to Casual; you can then specify the goal of reaching out when generating templates to get the best results.
This is also one of the only apps that allows you to categorize contacts by industry. It gives you about 20 of the most common industries to choose from, but if what you're looking for is missing, you can always create a custom category.
Lastly, Habsy's contact management isn't limited to just the app. You can export your contact lists to Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, or simply as a spreadsheet.

Similar to the other apps on this list, Contacts+ nails accuracy (if you don't see all the contact details initially, just refresh the page, and all the details should show up). In addition to scanning cards, the app can detect duplicates, and it tries to consolidate contacts into one singular profile to keep things clutter-free.Â
The app advertises an automatic contact enrichment by searching the web for photos, social profiles, and company information. But in my experience, it struggled to generate details for most of the companies in my contacts, even though they could be found with a simple Google search. The AI tools are also pretty standard.
The most useful capability for me is Smart Tags. These automatically identify any incomplete contact profiles. For example, you can filter for contacts that are missing an email address to make it easier to update those profiles. Other smart tags include a missing name, phone number, organization, or photo, and you can always create a custom tag.
If you're managing large contact databases, the premium version expands scanning limits and allows syncing across multiple address books. Plus, you get a good range of syncing integrations, including Google Contacts, Apple Contacts, and Exchange. And if you integrate Contacts+ with Zapier, you can use the app with even more of your tech stack. For example, whenever you scan a new business card, Zapier can automatically add or update a contact in your email marketing software.

Other ways to scan business cards
Only occasionally need to scan business cards? You actually might not need a dedicated app just for cards. Instead, you could use the scanner tools built into an app you already use to capture cards and copy text—and then manually save contacts to your address book.
Evernote Scannable. The popular notebook app Evernote happens to also have an app for scanning business cards. Scan a business card, and Evernote will usually automatically recognize and store it as a Business Card, with fields for the contact info along with a picture of the card and any notes you want. You can then save the contact to your address book or have Evernote remind you to stay in touch.
OneNote. Then there's OneNote, Microsoft's alternative to Evernote. Using its companion Microsoft Office Lens app, you can scan business cards and other documents and save them to your OneNote notebook for free. On your Mac or Windows desktop, you can then right-click on the business card scans in OneNote and copy the text, then add it to your address book.
Google Lens. Google Lens could be used as an alternative Android business card scanner, as it's built into most newer Android phones. While it may not be the best scanning app for Android, it's certainly the easiest to get started with. Simply take a picture of your card, tap the Lens icon, and save to your phone's contacts.
Google Drive or other OCR tool. You could also use a dedicated scanner app or the OCR tool built into Google Drive. Those apps can work well at recognizing text—though again, you'll need to do the hard work of copying the recognized text and putting it to work.
CRM. If your team uses a CRM app to manage your contacts and customers, its mobile app may have business card scanning built in. HubSpot CRM, Zoho CRM, Insightly, and Nutshell, among others, include business card scanning in their mobile apps.
So before you add another app to your stack, it's worth checking to see if an app you already have will do the trick.
With the number of digital business cards and contactless QR code-sharing capabilities that so many apps have today, it'll be interesting to see how these apps evolve beyond the need to scan physical cards.
