MuleSoft pricing: Is it worth it? [2026]

MuleSoft has been around since the mid-2000s, back when developers like me were still stitching applications together using CSV file transfers and duct tape. It was one of the first dedicated data integration software packages on the market, and computer geeks loved that we could use it to program our interfaces and build complicated workflows.

Another reason we loved MuleSoft, called Mule ESB (enterprise service bus) in those days, was that it was an open-source project. Not only could we use it to offload some of our integration work for free, we could also help code Mule itself. It was nerd heaven, I tell you.

Today, MuleSoft is as complex as ever, but the stakes are a lot higher. Now a full SaaS and iPaaS (integration platform as a service) provider, it's far from free. In this guide, I'll step through how MuleSoft pricing works and compare that model to Zapier's so you can decide which is a better fit for your team.

What is MuleSoft?

MuleSoft is an enterprise-level integration and automation platform that lets you connect APIs, apps, data, and systems across your organization and in the cloud. Founded in 2006, MuleSoft has long been a leader in the business automation software space. It's owned by Salesforce and serves as a dedicated integration platform for connecting Salesforce across enterprise systems.

More recently, MuleSoft has branched out into the world of AI automation with Agentforce, which allows you to build and deploy autonomous assistants that function more like virtual employees than a traditional integration software package. MuleSoft agents can run workflows, make decisions, and even build new orchestrations.

MuleSoft's deep technical foundation lets developers build APIs and tightly control integrations, but that complexity limits accessibility.

MuleSoft pricing overview

MuleSoft subscription costs depend on which service level best fits your situation, along with customizations and your monthly workload. The company doesn't publish exact pricing, but we can get a good idea of what goes into determining the cost of each base plan.

MuleSoft Anypoint

The Anypoint Platform is MuleSoft's core offering, the entry point to its app and data integration software. There are three Anypoint service levels: MuleSoft Integration Starter, MuleSoft Integration Advanced, and API Management Solution. Each offers its own feature set, which determines relative pricing—for actual figures, you'll have to talk to their sales team.

  • The Integration Starter package lets you build and deploy APIs, connect systems and data sources, and access MuleSoft's API marketplace. A free 30-day trial (no credit card required) lets you test these features, but you can't deploy to production. Access ends when the trial expires unless you upgrade to a paid plan.

  • Integration Advanced includes the basic Starter features, plus more advanced logging, high-availability options like cloud-based server clustering, and the ability to deploy APIs and workflows on your own locally-hosted servers. This level is suitable for companies that must meet rigid uptime and reporting standards.

  • Finally, the API Management Solution introduces even more stringent API standards and governance, including enhanced security protocols through the Flex Gateway. This level targets organizations subject to strict compliance standards.

Regardless of tier, your Anypoint subscription is just one part of your monthly cost. MuleSoft pricing combines the base fee with charges for compute usage, measured in vCores, a somewhat vague unit of processing capacity. Each plan includes a monthly vCore allocation, with additional charges if you exceed it.

MuleSoft Vibes

MuleSoft Vibes is a prebuilt AI agent that lets you tap into the underlying data integration software to build connectors and workflows using natural language prompts. It works like an AI chatbot, then goes one step further to build and deploy the solutions you outline. This makes it easier for non-developers to leverage the platform's automation capabilities.

Vibes is available as an add-on (for an extra fee) to any of the Anypoint levels described above. Any deployments or workflow operations that Vibes kicks off will consume vCores, just like the ones you'd build by hand—that eats into your monthly allocation or tacks onto the cost if you've already used up your allotment.

MuleSoft Agentforce

MuleSoft Agentforce is an AI agent builder that sits on top of the company's other offerings. It lets you create autonomous AI agents that act like virtual employees, building and running workflows, and making decisions on the fly. It extends the underlying Agentforce offering from Salesforce, which acquired MuleSoft in 2018.

Agentforce is a paid add-on to your Anypoint subscription, and it works best at the Integration Advanced level so that your agents have access to all the tools they need. As with Vibes, the agents you build with Agentforce run underlying workflows and tasks, all of which will consume vCore compute cycles.

Who is MuleSoft best for?

MuleSoft is best suited for large or growing companies with complex computing environments, enterprise-level architecture, and large, dedicated IT teams. MuleSoft can also play a key role for businesses building out a robust, long-term technology strategy. These organizations have the resources to make the most of a rich but complex platform.

MuleSoft is an expansive automation ecosystem with very powerful capabilities that let you do just about anything you need with your integrations and workflows. That power and flexibility require both a heavy financial investment and deep technical knowledge, even as the company expands its AI offerings.

MuleSoft vs. Zapier pricing

MuleSoft's pricing is unclear at best and requires you to contact its sales team to get any hard numbers. Even then, your monthly MuleSoft cost will vary based on how much computing power you use.

Zapier pricing, by contrast, is transparent. It's task-based, and you'll only pay for tasks that actually complete work for you. Things like triggers, filters, and branching don't count against your task usage—and you certainly won't have to think about compute costs. Plus, you'll get access to Zapier Tables and Zapier Forms, and any steps involving those built-in tools also won't count against your task usage.

Zapier also actually publishes its prices. There's a Free plan with 100 tasks per month—no credit card required and no expiration. Paid plans start at $19.99/month for the Professional level, with 750 tasks per month. The Team package costs $69/month for up to 25 users and 2,000 tasks. You can upgrade to a custom Enterprise plan for higher limits and more security and governance features. Zapier Agents are a paid add-on starting at $33.33/month.

Regardless of which tier you choose on Zapier, you can start building workflows right away. It's a much faster start—and that's underselling it—than coding and connecting APIs with MuleSoft.

Use Zapier for fewer barriers to integration and AI

MuleSoft's technical complexity means it takes a while to get up and running with your first integrations. And even then, you won't know exactly how much it's going to cost you since your compute costs can change with any small tweak. By contrast, you can sign up for Zapier right now and have your first workflow live in no time at all—and you'll always know what it's going to cost you. (A lot less.)

Once you've seen the value you can get from Zapier, we offer custom Enterprise packages that layer in even more security and governance features.
