Givebutter: App spotlight

How this app lets you raise money online for great causes

Picture this: you have an amazing idea for a non-profit organization, like a matchmaking app that connects you with a pooch in need of a home—instead of a human. (Yes, it really exists.)

Or maybe you're part of a charity that fights climate change, and you want to raise enough funds to actually have an impact on the world.

Whatever your reason for fundraising, there's no question about it: getting people to cough up the cash can be difficult. That's because a lot of fundraising platforms are clunky, use complex donation forms, and have no way for donors to engage with campaigns.

That's where Givebutter breaks the mold, with its social-media-style layout. The fundraising platform lets you successfully raise funds, track progress, and engage your supporters—for free.

Givebutter origins: Getting young people to give back

While still in college, students Max Friedman, Liran Cohen, and Ari Krasner bonded over a similar goal: to build something (cool) that would make the world a better place.

The idea for Givebutter was born when a friend of theirs wanted to collect donations to start a non-profit food truck. Most donation platforms, he told them, were either outdated or too expensive. This got them thinking: what if they could build a better platform?

Did you know? After launching Givebutter, their friend hit his target in just one day—and within a year, students from 300 different schools were using Givebutter to donate to their favorite causes.

Givebutter today: Supporting changemakers around the world

Today, more than 100k fundraisers have used Givebutter to raise money for good causes, amassing 1.3 million donors total across the world.

With its modern and donor-friendly fundraising tools, Givebutter has changed the way people seek donations and how donors (particularly Millennials) interact with the campaigns they give to.

For example, fundraisers can easily build campaigns and use modern forms to collect donations, as well as track supporter activity in one place. In turn, donors can interact with campaigns via photos, gifs, and messages.

Fave feature: With Givebutter's livestreaming feature, you can reach a broader audience by livestreaming directly to your campaign page via Zoom, YouTube, Facebook, and more.
