About You

You’re a Legal Pro. You have 7+ years experience and at least 5 years experience in a law firm handling a significant amount of technology issues and transactions. You've got a proven track record of working with high-growth technology companies preferably in the software or SaaS.

You have a wide range of knowledge and experience.  You have knowledge or experience in general corporate matters, contracts, including specific experience with SaaS sales, reseller, partnership, and licensing contracts, privacy, data security,  employment and international law. You are in good standing with at least one US state bar. CIPP certification [and in-house experience] would be an added bonus. You also have a willingness to learn areas of law outside of your expertise. 

You are a strategic thinker. You have experience developing strategies, systems and processes that help manage risk faced by the company while helping us achieve our business objectives.

You can make difficult decisions. You have experience making important decisions regarding legal and compliance risks in a fast-moving environment.  

You have strong professional judgement and are practical yet creative. You look at complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways. You look at the whole picture and know how to prioritize.  You act on the best information available and act decisively.

You are self-aware and have a high EQ. You know what you don’t know and know when it is time to seek outside counsel. You have strong listening skills and can learn from others.

You're a team player. You work collaboratively with no ego.

You wear many hats. You can see the big picture but can also roll up your sleeves and take on any task, big or small.  

You're data-driven. You have an analytical mindset and you know that you have to use data, metrics and analytics to measure success and make better decisions.

You're a skilled written communicator. You can take legal-ease and make it easy to read for a diverse workforce spanning the globe. Zapier is a 100% remote team and writing is our primary means of communication. 


Things You’ll Do

  • Oversee all legal and compliance matters and advise executive team members and management at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide day-to-day legal support working on a variety of legal matters including, contracts, data privacy, governance, technology transactions, employment, equity,  intellectual property and international issues.
  • Design, implement and oversee processes and technologies for scalable legal operations including development of our contract templates.
  • Develop and provide internal compliance trainings.
  • Address specialized issues and work with outside counsel where needed. 
  • Experiment: this is a startup so everything can change.
  • Travel of 5% - 10% for company retreats which rotate to various cities throughout North America.
  • As part of our All Hands Support initiative, every week help customers have the best possible experience with Zapier.

Location: Anywhere in the U.S. or Canada

Our team of 240+ is distributed because it lets us work with the best people. You don't have to be located in the USA either. Some team members live in the United Kingdom, Thailand, India, Nigeria, Taiwan, Guatemala, New Zealand, Australia, and more! You just need the skills and drive to succeed in this role and the ability to work from anywhere.
