Find Slack Users by Name

Users of team communication app Slack—like you—are known to love simplicity. That's why you plug Slack into Zapier: to simplify your work days with automated workflows. Here are Slack users' favorite Zaps that do just that:

Now there are even more ways to automate Slack using Zapier, including new ways to search for Slack messages and users, trigger Zaps from Slack, and automatically send Slack messages.

Use a Zap to Search for Slack Messages and Users

Zapier can now search for Slack messages and users. Set up Zaps with the "Find a Message," "Find a User by Name," or "Find a User by Email" Search Actions to help you find exactly what you're looking for in Slack.

For example, you can set up a Slack bot to congratulate team members whenever they win Pipedrive deals. Set up a Zap that will pull the team member's name from Pipedrive and then use it to search Slack to get the person's Slack username. Then the Zap will generate a giveaway code in Printfection and send it to the team member as a celebratory gift in your team's #Sales Slack channel.

If you want to archive Slack messages in Google Sheets for safe-keeping and reporting purposes, you can set up this Zap that will trigger whenever you add a new row to Google Sheets. The Zap will search Slack for messages that relate to the new Google Sheets row then update the row with the message.

Trigger Zaps from New Messages in Private Slack Channels

You can now trigger a Zap whenever you get new messages in a private Slack channel, just like you do whenever you get new messages in other channels. There are a variety of time-saving Zaps that you can create with this new functionality. For example, set up a Zap that adds new messages in a private Slack channel that mention certain terms (such as your name) to your to-do list app as tasks. Then you can send those tasks out to your team as messages in another private Slack channel. If you can imagine a Slack workflow, you can build a Zap to automate it and save yourself time.

Automatically Create Channels and Send Private Message Channels

You can now automatically create new Slack channels, based on events that happen in other apps. For example, if you sign on a new client, you could use a Zap to automatically create a new Slack channel just for that client. That way, your team has a dedicated space to discuss the client's needs, tasks, and more. Add on more steps to your Zap to create a Trello board for the client and link to the Trello board in your new Slack channel. All that client set-up work is automatically done for you.

You can now use Zaps to automatically send messages in private Slack channels, just as you use Zaps to automatically send messages in other Slack channels. This new functionality might be useful if you want to auto-send certain team members updates about hiring, accounting, employee satisfaction surveys, or other private matters.

How To Use This Integration:

  1. Sign up for a Slack account, and also make sure you have a Zapier account.
  2. Connect your Slack account to Zapier.
  3. Check out pre-made Slack integrations.
  4. Or create your own from scratch in the Zap Editor.
