The beauty of Freshbooks is how easy it is to manage every aspect of the billing process. You waste no time searching for important information about each sale, or losing hold of your billing as your business grows. As soon as you log in, a Dashboard presents an overview of total profit, outstanding invoices and revenue, total spending, and links to reports that you can view or present to your accountant. Its elegant user experience doesn't get in the way of your work.

When running your own business, it's crucial to get every invoice right. With Freshbooks, you can add expenses incurred to invoices, write a summary of the transaction, and provide other notes for context. You can also customize the look and feel of the invoice, schedule reminders, and charge late fees. After you create, customize, and check an invoice in FreshBooks, you an send it off to the client, partner, or customer.

The Invoicing section of the app gives you a detailed accounting of your invoicing activities. Here, you can easily see how much money is due and how much has been received. From this same view, you can see recently updated invoices, so that you can reference them if you have questions about the accounting. Below the recently updated invoices is a complete list of invoices, which is searchable.

As your list of clients expands, you need the ability to sort and manage all their information. The Clients section in FreshBooks handles client data well. It shows clients with outstanding balances and invoice drafts you have yet to send. FreshBooks uses client cards to show you both your client's information and recorded activities, such as invoices sent or paid. Within this same page, you can easily add internal notes, delete client profiles, and generate an invoice.

Most invoicing apps focus solely on generating and sending invoices. FreshBooks has other useful tools to manage your business, such as expense-tracking, time-tracking, and collaboration features. A Bank Connections feature lets you connect your FreshBooks account directly to your financial institutions so that you can pull in line items and add them as expenses to your accounting. It supports more than 14,000 financial institutions and uses 128-bit SSL bank-level security.

Two other sections in Freshbooks, Projects and Time Tracking, operate independently yet go hand-in-hand. The Projects section is a message thread where you and your colleagues can communicate and share files. The Time Tracking section lets you enter time on task for any work that's associated with the projects you create. Each entry displays a short form where you’d select the client, project, type of service, and description of the task you’re tracking time for. Billable entries are then added to the list of items to bill when issuing the next invoice.

Because FreshBooks is easy to use, it puts you on top of your business accounting, giving you insight into cash flow, clients, and your business as a whole.
