Both Lindy and Zapier are easy to implement. Lindy becomes your Slack- or message-based personal assistant, while Zapier becomes your one-stop shop for everything from one-off tasks to complex business orchestration.

When you hire a new employee, they usually require an onboarding plan, weeks or months of training, and—at a minimum—a get-to-know-you chat over donuts. So it's easy to be impressed watching Lindy familiarize itself with the entirety of your organization's Slack history in a few minutes. Once you connect Lindy to your Slack, email, and phone number, plus any other external apps you want it to be able to take action in, you're good to go.

Getting started in Slack is a simple matter of tagging @Lindy in public channels or in private messages to ask questions and get stuff done.

Lindy does double duty as an executive assistant for each person on your team. Shortly after you create an account, you'll start getting emails and texts from Lindy asking how it can help you. Like a real teammate, the context of what you're working on with Lindy follows you, whether you're responding via Slack, email, or SMS.

Any preferences you tell Lindy—or workflow patterns that it observes in your workspace—are then saved across a handful of editable files.

Lindy is far from the only agentic helper that can do this sort of thing. What makes it interesting is the fact that it really does act like a coworker: it joins meetings, remembers everything across conversations, and decides when to take proactive action (also known as "ambient behavior" in tech-speak).

Zapier is just as easy. Describe what you want in plain language to Zapier Copilot, which builds, configures, and helps you test each step. It takes just minutes to get to a published workflow.

Unlike Zapier, Lindy isn't designed to build organization-level systems. As a result, it's missing certain advanced features that make implementation both more flexible and more reliable. For example, Zapier's conditional workflows can handle up to 10 paths and execute all of them, assuming the conditions for each path are met. With Lindy, only the path deemed "most true" will be followed, which complicates things if multiple conditions can be true at the same time.

You can make Zapier's workflows even more granular by:

• Adding fallback paths that run whenever other path branches fail

• Embedding nested paths as a "step inside a step" to cover all possibilities

• Defining error handling for each step in advance

• Storing data to use within the same workflow or in other workflows

• Reducing rate-limiting errors by running paths sequentially

You probably won't use any of these for minor task automations. But for business-critical systems where failed automations cost you money or customers, Zapier's advanced workflow options are essential.

Zapier integrates with 9x the tools Lindy does, and it also offers its own MCP server.

Zapier has spent 15 years meticulously adding stable integrations with 9,000+ apps. As a result, it covers pretty much any app you can think of; Zapier users can typically connect the majority of their tech stack using Zapier's prebuilt connectors, which are known for their reliability. APIs change often, and when they do, nothing breaks for you—it's all automatically maintained.  

Lindy offers a respectable selection of 1,000+ apps, so you'll have no trouble connecting to common business and productivity apps like Google Workspace, Slack, Calendly, and Airtable. But there are also some notable gaps, including Meta lead ads, BambooHR, Kajabi, Buffer, and Fathom. The more teams you have using Lindy, the more you'll notice those gaps.

Lindy can connect to any MCP server as a harness, so even if your apps aren't on its list of integrations, you may still be able to connect to them. But once you start using another app's MCP server connection, the responsibility is on you—not Lindy—to make sure it keeps working over time. Well-known brands often have reliable MCP servers, but plenty of others, especially for smaller or more niche apps, are abandoned or only loosely maintained, making them less dependable than Zapier's prebuilt connections.

Lindy is simple to use, but it's scoped to whatever's happening inside Slack, email, and text. Zapier's ease of use is built to spread past any single channel or person, which is the difference between a convenient AI teammate and a platform your whole company can build on.

Lindy's whole pitch is that adding an AI teammate feels as easy as adding a new coworker to Slack. Tag @Lindy in a public channel or send it a direct message, and it can answer questions, pull reports, or take action in your connected apps, with no separate app needed. It also reaches out proactively over email and text, checking in on what you're working on without being asked.

Whenever you ask Lindy to set up a routine (like "send me a quick summary of my week every Monday at 9am"), it gets logged in the Routines tab. Personal and workspace-wide routines are set up separately, which is handy since Lindy has the option to activate prebuilt routines that have nothing to do with work, like meal logging and workout trackers.

As you give Lindy more context, it becomes more useful over time. With access to Slack discussions, meeting notes, and third-party apps like CRMs and ad platforms, you'll be able to ping Lindy on Slack and get up-to-the-minute answers and visual reports.

Once it's built, Zapier's no-code visual builder is known for its ease of use, so you can build even complex workflows without any technical expertise. You can also access Zapier from your AI tools using Zapier MCP, so whatever AI assistant you use can safely take actions for you across 9,000+ apps.

For smaller teams and scrappy startups, relying only on Lindy's guardrails might be sufficient. But as your team grows, it's easy for shadow AI to get out of control: you often have no idea which credentials or data your team is loading into other tools like Claude or Cursor.

Zapier is built for exactly this situation. Wherever your team is working, they can connect their AI tool to 9,000+ connected apps—and with Zapier, there's no gap in oversight. Lindy's pricing model starts with a 7-day free trial (credit card required), and after that, you need to subscribe to its Plus plan for $29.99/month per user. That gives you 3,000 credits per user per month, which may or may not be enough depending on your activities.

Everyday tasks like answers, summaries, and updating data in your connected tools will run you anywhere from a handful of credits to ~250. (In my tests, a basic request like "What's the latest on this project?" cost around 25 credits.) Research-heavy tasks, like reports and proposals, are closer to 250-1,000 credits. And what Lindy calls "Big Builds"—HTML dashboards or internal tools—can add up to 1,000-2,500 credits. That's most of your monthly limit.

So in more concrete terms, each user on the Plus plan could:

• Ping Lindy with a miscellaneous question in Slack around 100 times, or

• Run 3-12 research-heavy tasks, or

• Create one or two dashboards or internal tools

If you have a team, all the credits pool together, which helps reduce wasted credits. But it also means heavy users can quickly drain the entire team's budget.

The downside of all this is that there are plenty of ways to run out of credits. You can top up your credits at $10 per 1,000 credits, or upgrade to one of Lindy's higher-tier plans: the $99.99/month per user Pro plan offers 15,000 credits per user, and the $199.99/month per user Max plan includes 35,000 credits per user.

Zapier's pricing, on the other hand, is based on completed tasks, not usage. If a step tries to run but fails, you won't pay for it. If you use Copilot to design a new workflow, internal app, or business system, it doesn't count against you. And there are lots of internal Zapier actions that never charge you anything, including triggers, filters, paths, and activities that take place elsewhere in Zapier's platform, like Tables or Forms.

You also get a greater level of transparency and predictability with Zapier's approach. Since you know precisely how many tasks each workflow incorporates, you don't have to worry about accidentally blowing your budget.

Zapier offers a free plan that includes 100 tasks per month. You can upgrade to the Professional plan starting at $19.99/month (billed annually) for 750 tasks, multi-step workflows, and advanced AI features. And since Lindy charges per user but Zapier doesn't, the savings get bigger at the team level: Zapier's Team plan starts at $69/month for 2,000 tasks and includes access for up to 25 users. Zapier also offers custom Enterprise pricing.

Zapier publishes a live status page that tracks Zaps, Copilot, the Developer Platform, and Beta Products separately, with incident history posted alongside current status. Zapier's infrastructure has processed 81+ billion tasks to date, including more than 550 million AI tasks—which is the kind of volume that surfaces edge cases most platforms never encounter. Lindy doesn't have the same infrastructure track record. 

While it can be useful to Lindy to have constant access to all of your context (like Slack discussions, meeting notes, and all your third-party apps), Lindy's main performance drawback is speed. It consistently took Lindy around 90 seconds to reply to my messages, even in a tiny Slack organization with a total of three dozen messages. It didn't matter if I had a quick question ("what's the latest project we're working on?") or a complex request ("create a quick leads dashboard for this channel"). As a point of comparison, Slack's own personal AI agent, Slackbot, answered those same questions in under 10 seconds.

That gap won't always matter, since asking an assistant to summarize your week doesn't need a sub-10-second turnaround. But if you're depending on Lindy for real-time answers in a busy Slack channel, a consistent 90-second lag won't cut it for teams who are used to using tools built directly into Slack.

One other thing to consider: since it was founded in 2023, Lindy has pivoted multiple times. Originally a more direct Zapier competitor, it then shifted to an iMessage-first personal assistant, and only recently became a broader personal AI assistant. It's still finding its footing, whereas Zapier has been a powerful and growing automation platform for 15 years.
