Google URL Shortener

When you need to share a link that’s too long to remember, you need a URL shortener. Google’s URL Shortener, Goo.gl, was one of the best options for the past eight years. Its memorable name made it a great way to shorten links and track how many people clicked them.

That ends this month. Google announced on Friday that the Goo.gl URL Shortener will stop accepting new signups on April 13. The Google team is focusing their efforts on in-app links powered by its Firebase platform and will no longer be running their original link shortening service.

What Will Happen to my Goo.gl Links and Google URL Shortener Zaps?

If you’ve already created goo.gl short links, don’t worry—they’ll continue to work and send visitors to the original URL you shortened. And if you've already logged into Google URL Shortener with your Google account, you'll still be able to make shortened links through March 29, 2019 and open the Google URL Shortener dashboard to see your existing links and stats and download an archive.

For Zaps using the Zapier Google URL Shortener integration, we expect them to continue working until the shut down date. To avoid an unexpected interruption however, we encourage you to switch to an alternative URL shortener today.

Switch to a New Link Shortener

A quick option is to use Zapier’s new URL Shortener. Edit your Zaps that use Google URL Shortener and choose the Zapier URL Shortener step instead to shorten links with a zpr.io link. You can then use that new short URL in subsequent steps in your Zap to send messages with short links and more.
