Workshop

Turn Slack requests into scheduled work with AI

Thursday, September 17
2 PM ET

This is a free hands-on workshop where you'll build along live.

Someone asks you or your team for something in Slack. You hit the emoji, you say "on it," and you mean it. But you haven't yet found the time to get the task done.

The build in this workshop solves that problem.

In this 60-minute workshop you'll build an AI personal coordinator. React to a Slack message, and the request becomes a real task on your calendar, scheduled into time you actually have open, with a distilled summary of the conversation and a link back to the original thread.

We'll have Zapier customer Kenny Taber showcase the team-level version of this type of workflow that RevOps, Support, IT, and other teams run at scale, where requests from coworkers and customers get turned into organized work instead of getting lost in various systems. You'll build the personal version so that you can take your learnings to work on a team version with the same shape.

Who this is for:

  • Anyone who has teammates in Slack asking them to get something done

  • Operations people who are the unofficial queue for their team

  • Managers who keep losing small commitments in Slack

  • Anyone who wants to see how a request queue is built before rolling one out to a team

What you'll build:

  • A Slack trigger on the reaction/emoji you choose

  • An AI step that reads the message and turns it into a clear, specific task

  • A calendar lookup that finds open time on tomorrow's calendar

  • A calendar block with a link straight back to the Slack thread

You don't need to be technical, you just need a Zapier account and Slack and your calendar app authenticated.

Don't have Slack authenticated in Zapier? Before you join, do this first:

Two things need to be connected before we start, and one of them might need your Slack admin. Sort this out this week, not on the day.

  • Zapier added to your Slack workspace. Most workspaces let any member add an app. Some require admin approval, and some block it. Check early.

  • Slack and Google Calendar connected to your Zapier account.

To add Zapier to Slack: in Slack, click Agents & tools in the sidebar (or Tools), open Apps, search for Zapier, click Add, then Add to Slack. If your workspace requires approval you'll get a request option instead. Send that request now, because approvals can sit for days.

To connect both apps in Zapier: open your Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, add Slack, then do the same for Google Calendar.
