A note from Wade Foster, Zapier CEO: We love people who get stuff done. Within just a few weeks of joining Zapier, Stephanie Briones has taken on the task of redesigning the onboarding experience with laser focus. I knew when Stephanie joined the team that she'd bring her wonderful visual design talents with her, but Zapier users are also going to benefit from how quickly she works to launch new and improved features. Moreover, they'll benefit from how much empathy she has for people and her aim to make their lives easier. Please help us give a warm welcome to Stephanie.

Hi, everyone! My name is Stephanie Briones and I am joining Zapier as a Product Designer.

Before Zapier

When I was young, I was always drawing, painting, or making things. My mother was kind enough to let me paint whatever I wanted on the walls of my bedroom. Talking with her recently, she told me that those walls were where I practiced for what I do now. I was also fortunate in middle school to have my older sister teach me how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. That was when I discovered my interest to design and communicate digitally. I started to design websites, gig posters, album art, and T-shirts for local bands.

Several years later, I opened an Etsy shop where I sold handmade paper goods ranging from greeting cards to meal planners. I ran my shop for nearly three years. Although it allowed me to be creative and hands-on, I had always wanted to learn more and do more. Before long, I rediscovered my love for designing for the web, and decided to teach myself HTML and CSS.

My self-taught skills led me to a position as the Director of Design at 8th Light—a software consultancy in Chicago, Ill. I started an apprenticeship at 8th Light in 2011, and graduated the program 8 months later. Following that experience, I mentored each designer on the team throughout their own apprenticeships in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. We focused on writing clean markup and modular styles, and building polished, responsive layouts with an emphasis on web typography. These skills helped the team focus on crafting simple, usable, and beautiful interfaces when it came time to implement designs within complex development environments.

At Zapier

I discovered Zapier while searching for a remote product design position. Like many of the other folks at Zapier, I was ready to part with my daily commute, and enjoy the freedom of no longer being tied down to a specific location. As soon as I read the job posting, I knew I wanted to work at Zapier, and that feeling was reinforced each time that I spoke with co-founders Mike Knoop and Wade Foster along with the rest of the team during the interview process.

I'm very excited and grateful to be part of this amazing team. At Zapier, I'll be helping to grow our design team, and working to deliver anticipated new features and improved experiences for our customers. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think!

For Fun

Stephanie Briones

I am currently living in Chicago with my partner Rick. When I'm not at my computer, you might find me making coffee or cocktails, playing Gotham City Impostors on the Xbox, watching TV shows, eating sushi, or traveling.
