Gumloop is built entirely around agents, while Zapier treats agents as one layer of a much broader AI orchestration platform.

Gumloop has rebuilt itself around AI agents as the primary interface for getting work done. Agents can run on schedules, use skills and workflows, self-improve over time, and respond to trigger events that happen in any of your connected apps. As with Zapier's agentic workflows, which I'll get into shortly, you can define the parameters for your Gumloop Agent by simply describing what you need.

Gumloop's workflow builder still exists, but it now plays more of a supporting role for agents. You can initiate workflows manually if you want, but the real point of building them is for agents to call on them as needed to get stuff done.

You can also create Skills that define a specific process for frequent tasks. When you request emails, reports, or lead qualification, Skills help your agent do them the same way every time. (One neat feature: when you correct your agent's mistake, your agent will update the relevant Skill accordingly so things go smoother next time.)

Zapier's focus is broader and more flexible. Zapier also offers agentic workflows—but rather than making them the whole product, Zapier treats them as one layer of a larger platform built around a simple idea: your agents should be able to work wherever you work.

Build an agent into a deterministic Zap workflow. Run it from Claude or ChatGPT via Zapier MCP. Embed it in a code project with the Zapier SDK. Trigger it from the terminal with the Zapier CLI. Whichever environment you're in, Zapier is the governed access layer with OAuth-managed connections, no credentials exposed to the model, and a single place to control what your agents can touch.

That's the difference between a platform built around agents and a platform built to make agents work safely across your entire business. Gumloop gives you agents, but Zapier gives you the infrastructure to run them anywhere.

It can be quick to get started with both Gumloop and Zapier, but Gumloop is more open-ended and lacks some of Zapier's more advanced orchestration options.

If you're the type to jump straight to templates, both platforms give you plenty of ways to get started quickly. Gumloop has 180+ templates for agents and workflows, and that number is growing steadily since most templates are submitted by Gumloop users. Zapier offers thousands of templates for app-to-app workflows, along with hundreds of multi-product solutions for use cases like brand mention tracking, AI sales coaching, unified lead capture systems, and automated weekly Slack standups.

Signing up for Zapier takes just an email address or Google login, and Zapier Copilot or one of Zapier's thousands of templates typically gets a first automation running within 15-20 minutes.

Gumloop's signup looks similar on the surface: create an account (or log in with Google or Microsoft). The platform offers agents, workflows, and basic forms. But it lacks some of Zapier's most compelling features that make it easy to orchestrate your business processes, like:

• Tables for storing and managing structured data across workflows

• Forms for building custom forms that connect to your Zap workflows and Tables

• Code by Zapier for code-forward automation when you need it

Gumloop can't match Zapier's breadth. And with just 300+ integrations versus Zapier's 9,000+, Gumloop is much more limiting if you want to implement agentic workflows across your entire app stack.

Zapier connects with 30x more apps than Gumloop, and every one of them keeps working automatically as the underlying APIs change.

Zapier offers a massive app ecosystem with over 9,000+ pre-built integrations spanning every category: CRMs, productivity platforms, marketing and sales tools, finance and operations, and emerging AI and data platforms. No matter what apps your teams use, Zapier probably integrates with them out of the box.

Gumloop's integration library is tiny by comparison, with just over 300 integrations. If you're operating entirely within the apps it supports, Gumloop makes things easy. You can trigger Gumloop Agents based on events in connected apps by writing what you need in plain English (like "trigger agent whenever a new comment is left on a Zendesk ticket"); Gumloop figures out the technical stuff, like polling frequency, from the context of your request. You can also use third-party web monitoring tools like Parallel to trigger your agents based on news, social media posts, or competitors' websites.

While Gumloop is strategic about integrating popular apps like Slack, Asana, Typeform, and Pipedrive, most teams will quickly run into limits when they need to integrate less common tools or industry-specific apps. 

Gumloop also offers 50+ pre-built MCP servers, which works great for teams operating entirely within their supported apps. But 50+ MCP servers and 300+ native integrations is still a fraction of what most enterprise teams actually run on. Once you need something outside Gumloop's catalog, you're building and maintaining custom connections yourself as APIs change.

Zapier MCP works differently. Install it into Claude, ChatGPT, or any other MCP-compatible client once, and your agents get access to 9,000+ pre-built, maintained integrations. Zapier handles auth and access control across all of them, with a single place to see and control everything your agents can access. That's the difference between a curated MCP library and an integration platform built to run at enterprise scale.

Zapier's AI copilot builds across Zapier's entire product suite from a single prompt; Gumloop's chat-first interface is genuinely intuitive, but it's still limited to what Gumloop itself offers.

Just a few years ago, launching agents meant orchestrating every step, from logic to error handling. Creating automations required you to either use templates or map the process out manually. With Zapier Copilot, both processes are far easier: just describe what you want, and Copilot builds it for you.

Even ambitious enterprise projects can start with a simple Copilot chat. While competing AI assistants (like Gumloop's) can create agents or workflows autonomously, Zapier Copilot is unique in the breadth of what it orchestrates. You can weave together workflows, agentic AI, tables, and forms into a cohesive business system just by chatting with Copilot about the problem you need to solve.

For enterprise users, Zapier's ease of use has a big impact on scalability. Andrew Harding, VP Marketing & Content Partnerships at Slate Magazine, puts it this way: "We're training the team to build for themselves…The more AI-first builders we have, the faster we grow." With Zapier, every non-technical team, from HR to customer support, is empowered to create and manage their own workflows—instead of waiting in an IT queue for simple changes.

That said, Gumloop has come a long way recently in terms of ease of use: its new agent-focused platform is far more intuitive than its older workflow-driven experience. Most interactions with Gumloop now start with a chat, just like Zapier Copilot.

After the chatbot starts building your agent, you can tweak it in the drag-and-drop canvas editor that doesn't look much different than Zapier. You'll need to make sure there's an input node for what you're feeding in, a processing node like a web scraper or an AI node (where you pick a model like ChatGPT or Claude and write a prompt), and an output node like email or Slack.  

Gumloop's Home tab gives a clean overview of the agents and workflows you've interacted with recently, and it's easy to jump between agents, skills, and workflows as you build out your agentic ecosystem.

Zapier's Home tab gives you more of a birds-eye overview of your orchestration setup, and it's focused on keeping your team organized and empowered to build together. You'll have quick access to an inbox, workflow folders, a template library, and visibility into your app connections and live automations.

Zapier and Gumloop both cover the enterprise basics, but Zapier's security and governance extend further with SOC 3 and CCPA compliance and one unified admin hub, while Gumloop counters with HIPAA compliance and Gumstack, a dedicated agent-observability layer.

Gumloop's enterprise plan offers a serious security and compliance stack for a company its age: SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA compliance with BAAs available for eligible plans, SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, RBAC, custom data retention, audit logging, AI model access controls, and admin dashboards. 

The recently launched Gumstack is an observability platform to help enterprises monitor how agents use data and access tools. Along with monitoring Gumloop's agents, it can also view tool calls across Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor.

Zapier's Team plan adds SAML SSO and role-based permissions (RBAC). Step up to Enterprise for SCIM provisioning, user management, and custom data retention, on top of SOC 2, SOC 3, GDPR, and CCPA compliance and real-time alerts. You get a unified admin center to manage governance settings and approval workflows across every Zapier product, plus audit logging that covers asset creation, login activity, variable tracking, and more, all from one dashboard.

Zapier's task-based pricing is predictable by design. Gumloop's pricing model is credit-based, with varying costs for different workflows based on how advanced they are. Basic flows are priced at one credit, while more complex actions run anywhere from two to hundreds of credits.

While Gumloop's credit-based system is understandable given the range of API costs involved, all those variables make it hard to know exactly what you're getting when you sign up. You need to keep an eye on your credit budget to make sure you're not burning through credits faster than expected—especially when operating at scale with multiple departments and team members.

20,000 credits on Gumloop's Pro plan might mean:

• Thousands of basic tasks (like simple app-to-app flows)

• Hundreds of higher-difficulty actions (like advanced AI calls)

• Dozens of resource-intensive workflows (like contact enrichment)

Getting used to Gumloop's billing system takes time; small credit costs tend to accumulate in surprising ways if you're used to more straightforward billing scenarios like Zapier's. 

For example, when you set your Gumloop Agent up to be triggered by outside apps, you'll pay one credit for each polling check and three credits to trigger your agent when conditions are met. If you have multiple agents monitoring multiple apps throughout the day, this adds up quickly; real-time updates, in which polling events happen every five minutes, can cost hundreds of credits per day.

Even designing and testing your Gumloop agents consumes credits: in my testing, building a single lead qualification agent burned through nearly 1,000 credits.

With Zapier, you can design and test anything you want for free, and polling is free too. Zapier uses a transparent, predictable task-based pricing model: you're charged only for completed work actions. 

Even better, there's a long list of internal steps that never count as tasks, including:

• Trigger steps

• Filters and paths

• Steps for Zapier Tables and Zapier Forms

• Formatter

• Delay

• Looping

• Storage

As a result, every task represents meaningful work completed in your connected apps, with no confusion about whether a particular action will consume credits or trigger variable costs.

And although Gumloop's costs may appear lower in some scenarios, Zapier delivers significantly more value for your investment. You get 9,000+ pre-built, maintained integrations, meaning you won't spend engineering time and resources building custom API connections like you would with Gumloop's limited integration library. Zapier also provides a much fuller set of features, including automations, tables, forms, agentic AI, and process mapping on every plan.

Zapier is a battle-tested platform with 15 years of development and millions of active customers, including users at large enterprises like Meta, Samsung, Mastercard, and Disney. 69% of the Fortune 1000 use Zapier, and it's widely used by companies of all sizes for everything from customer support to sales to HR.

Gumloop, founded in 2023, is a newer platform with a much shorter enterprise track record. Zapier has automated 81 billion+ tasks to date, significantly more than Gumloop's 950 million, and offers enterprise-grade reliability with autoreplay, custom error handling, real-time failure alerts, execution logs, and version rollback built into every plan, backed by a public status page.

Gumloop also publishes a public status page, and its per-node Run Log gives real-time status indicators, execution time, and credit cost for every step, which makes debugging a failed run straightforward. But Gumloop doesn't currently support automatic retries at the workflow level.  The practical workaround is wrapping a subflow in an Error Shield node and manually routing the error path back into another run of the same subflow to simulate a retry. 

Also, given that Gumloop has already pivoted focus once—from a workflow automation tool to an AI agent builder—you can't be quite as confident that things won't continue to change. It's a new company still finding its footing. Zapier, on the other hand, has proven itself as a reliable leader in automation and AI.
