Director of Zapier Labs (Research & Innovation)

Here at Zapier, we've been experiencing high levels of growth. As we look to our future and our mission to democratize automation, we're looking for our Director of Zapier Labs to lead research and innovation. You will lead a lean, scrappy, multi-disciplined, fast-paced team whose charter is to discover and create new things that people love with broad scope around automation and productivity. This team will function as a startup within Zapier, and you'll be at the forefront of leadership and execution in this highly entrepreneurial role.

As a unique team within the company, you'll leverage your business savvy, customer development, and user-centric mindset to ideate, develop and validate new products through rapid experimentation and iteration. You'll prototype, gather data, and build the next horizon of Zapier to continue to drive growth.

About You

You know how to build a business. You not only know how to build a product, but you know how to validate its market fit and value to customers through qualitative and quantitative measures. You know how to use that data to influence and position a product for growth. 

You've built software products. You have experience prototyping and iterating in a fast-paced, agile way to create net-new software products. You have deep user empathy, know how to talk to them, and leverage it to ensure you build for value. 

You're multi-disciplinary. Everyone on this team is multi-disciplinary to enable agility. You also have a multi-disciplinary background that allows you to be strategic but also work on tactics. You know how to leverage the team's strengths but are also willing to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and work across the entire product life cycle.

You have experience innovating. You have experience driving innovation within an existing company and understand and have ways to address innovation trade-offs within a larger organization.

You are an effective team builder. You have at least two years of experience leading teams of diverse disciplines. You know how to hire, inspire, develop, and motivate team members from all backgrounds and leverage their skills to maximize creativity and throughput.

The Whole Package

Location: Remote in North America

Our team of 400+ is distributed (remote) because it lets us work with the best people. We have team members that live in the United Kingdom, Thailand, India, Nigeria, Taiwan, Guatemala, New Zealand, Australia, and more! While we can hire many roles in locations anywhere in the world, some require specific timezone fits. 

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)

  • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents of biological or adopted children
  • Pick your own equipment. We'll set you up with whatever Apple laptop + monitor combo you want plus any software you need.
  • Unlimited vacation policy. Plus we require you to take at least 2 weeks off each year. We see most employees take 4-5 weeks off per year. This isn't a vague policy where unlimited vacation means no vacation.
  • Work with awesome companies around the world. We partner with great software companies all over the world and you'll constantly get to interact with people from these great companies

*While we take care of our international folks as best we can, currently, healthcare and retirement plans are only available to UK, Canada, and US-based employees.
