Senior UX Researcher

As a Senior UX Researcher supporting one of our highest impact company initiatives, you will help the organization gain a better understanding of customers’ wants and needs in order to build features and products that resonate with a complex user base. You will act as a strategic partner across Product Management, Partner Management, Design, and Marketing to ensure cohesive and cross-functional vision for product development at Zapier.

About You

You have worked in senior-level research capacity. You have at least 5 years of hands-on experience designing and conducting user research and be able to show how your work has had an impact. We expect to hear stories of how your research influenced product roadmaps and informed design decisions.

You have at least two years of experience working on initiatives with difficult-to-reach or niche user populations. You've worked on projects that required establishing ongoing relationships with your research participants. If you're coming from in-house work, you're accustomed to partnering with different parts of an organization, like Customer Success or Business Development, to reach sensitive audiences. You're intentional and diplomatic in your cross-functional partnerships and drive meaningful results while also supporting deep user relationships.

You’re comfortable working in qualitative research areas with some experience leveraging quantitative data. We have Data and Decision Science teams to perform heavy quantitative analyses, and you will collaborate regularly to help them understand where a deep dive might be fruitful, as well as use their results to inform future areas of qualitative research. You are comfortable working across these disciplines to accomplish both teams’ goals. You’ve either led quantitative studies or interfaced heavily with a quantitative team in the past.

You put your team's and customers' needs first. You enjoy helping and enabling product teams to do great work. You optimize your research strategy for what helps users best achieve their goals. 

You love collaboration and feedback. You understand successful research doesn't happen in a vacuum or in secret. You believe in sharing work early, openly, and often. You enjoy teaming up with product managers, engineers, data scientists, customer champions, writers, and customers to help make the research team's work as effective as possible.

You are resourceful. You know how to work across functions to get the research team ahead of projects. You work diligently to ensure progress is made across active projects, and you know when you need to jump in. 

Things You’ll Do:

  • Conduct end- to-end research, using mixed methodologies, to help us gain confidence in our understanding of our users (current and future), their needs and the opportunity this uncovers for our products. You'll work with autonomy and creativity every step of the way!
  • Contribute to the development of a strong and innovative research practice across the Zapier organization
  • Work to ensure team engagement in user research studies, and foster a shared understanding of research output to drive research informed decision-making
  • Translate qualitative findings across different sources into coherent tactical and strategic insights, as well as actionable recommendations that drive innovation and an improved experience for users
  • Find creative and compelling ways to generate, present, and evangelize results and recommendations throughout the company, to help cultivate a highly informed, more effective, and more empathetic organization
  • Manage all aspects of research (planning, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting) for both generative (participatory design) and evaluative (usability testing) research within your strategic initiative
  • Collaborate with the data and decision science teams
  • Travel 5-10% of the year to our bi-annual company retreats based in North America
  • As a part of our All Hands Support initiative, help customers have the best possible experience with Zapier

The Whole Package

Location: North America or EMEA

Our distributed environment lets us work with the best people. You don't have to be located in the USA either. Some team members live in the United Kingdom, Thailand, India, Nigeria, Taiwan, Guatemala, New Zealand, Australia, and more! You just need the skills and drive to succeed in this role and the ability to work from anywhere.
