Head of Decision Science and Analytics

We're looking for an exceptional leader with deep expertise in decision science, business analytics and marketing analytics. You will build and lead our decision science and analytics teams, provide thought leadership to the company around how we handle data, build analysis of that data and strategically apply learnings toward improving our product, marketing, and overall business.  We are looking for someone with a proven history of building and leading successful teams, process and culture that drive a strong understanding of our data, how we use data and how we empower others to use data across the company. Additionally, you will work closely with department leads, product managers and the executive team to understand their roadmaps and proactively align analytics’ roadmap to support them.  While you will report to the Chief Marketing Officer, you will work together to set a vision for Decision Science, develop a world class team, and create cross-functional partnerships across the executive team at Zapier.

About You

  • 10+ years relevant experience, proven track record in leading and growing decision science and analytics teams
  • Passion for managing people, developing talent and building a resilient team culture.
  • Experience driving strategic work and operationalizing the output across an organization
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, ability to present work at an executive level
  • Exceptional analytical skills, ability to partner with functional teams to develop and apply key insights
  • Expert level experience in both using and mentoring others on the use of business intelligence platforms (Looker preferred), Redshift, SQL, Google 360 Suite and similar tools.
  • Experience with ETL and dimensional modeling preferably with star schema
  • Positive, company first attitude, strong collaborator with proven ability to partner/lead cross functional efforts


Things You'll Do:

Zapier is a fast-growing and remote-first company, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. That said, here are some things you'll probably do:

  • Build and lead a world class team of highly talented analysts focused on building our business, marketing, and product analytics functions.  Develop a strong team culture focused on partnership with all key functional teams.
  • Leverage corpus of analysis to provide recommendations on company strategy, business decisions, and prioritization to functional leaders. Collaborate with department leaDecision Science and product to document their current and future analytics needs.
  • Work with across Zapier to identify business opportunities, measure KPIs, craft data driven narratives, make quant backed recommendations and drive informed actions.
  • Manage and optimize processes: You will evaluate and improve processes for prioritizing and assigning tasks, data modeling, visualization and communicating timelines and deliverables.
  • Analyze and present usage behavior metrics, such as funnel conversion, user churn, activation, engagement and purchasing drivers. Work with marketers and product managers to design tests to improve these metrics.
  • Use a variety of statistical methods to uncover user/customer insights in order to develop and guide product design and marketing program decisions.
  • Ensure all teams have insight to data and can answer their own questions. Develop data literacy program and provide easy to use tools with clear documentation, examples and tutorials.
  • Collaborate w/ teammates, data services, product, finance and operations to help create roadmaps for data modeling and analysis that serve the team in the short and long term.
  • As part of our All Hands Support initiative, every week help customers have the best possible experience with Zapier


About Data at Zapier


Zapier relies on dozens of systems that emit data about Zapier and our potential and current users and partners. This data is useful for us to make a better product, better decisions and understand our weaknesses and opportunities. The data team at Zapier pulls this data from DBs, APIs and through event streams, collocates it and then processes through all the disparate systems to bring them together in a reliable, timely, performant and easy to understand way to employees and systems that need access to it.


Our stack best summed up by AWS Redshift (and related AWS products like AWS Glue, Redshift Spectrum, AWS S3), Looker, Matillion ETL, Kafka, Python, and R. But we're pragmatic -- for example, we have a some Java for ingesting data from Kafka, and we use Clojure for inferring schema and other information about data sets.
