Zap isn't being triggered

If your Zap isn't running when you expect it to, check if your Zap is being triggered in your Zap History. If you don’t see any Zap runs even though you know your trigger events have been happening, it means that your Zap isn’t triggering.


Because of how Zapier works, your Zap will not trigger on existing records. If you must import data from one app to another, you can use the Transfer feature.

1. Check your plan's polling interval

The polling interval or update time is the frequency that Zapier will check your trigger apps for new data. The polling interval varies between 1 to 15 minutes based on different pricing plans.

For example, if you're on a Free plan, Zapier will check your trigger app for new data every 15 minutes. It can therefore take up to 15 minutes for a Zap to be triggered after the trigger event happens.


Triggers labeled Instant will always trigger Zaps immediately (regardless of pricing plan) as the trigger app pushes the data to Zapier when the event happens.

2. Turn the Zap off and on

  • In the Zap editor, click the switch to turn the Zap off.
  • Click the switch again to turn the Zap back on.
  • Test the Zap by sending new data to cause the trigger event to happen.

For example, if your Zap triggers every time you receive a new email, send yourself a new email to test the Zap.

3. Check your trigger app account connection

  • In the Zap editor, click the Trigger step to open it.
  • Click to expand the Choose account section.
  • Check if you’re using the correct app account and if the app account is connected to Zapier.
    • If the correct app account isn’t connected, click the account dropdown menu and click + Connect a new account.
    • If your app account connection has expired, reconnect your app account.

4. Check your trigger event

  • In the Zap editor, click the Trigger step to open it.
  • Click to expand the Choose app & event section.
  • Check if the correct Trigger Event is selected.

For example, if your app differentiates between contacts and leads, and you want the Zap to trigger when new leads are created, make sure that the trigger event is “New Leads” and not “New Contacts”.

5. Check your trigger options

If your trigger has any additional options, check that they're correctly filled in and set up.

  • In the Zap editor, click the Trigger step to open it.
  • Click to expand the Set up trigger section (if available) and check each option.

For example, if your trigger step has options that limit what it triggers on, make sure the records you’re looking for match those options exactly. If you’ve set a “New Subscriber” trigger when new subscribers are added to “ABC list”, make sure that new subscribers are being added to that specific list, and not a different list.
