Spreadsheet Style Formulas

Spreadsheet-style formulas allow you to evaluate a formula with the same syntax found in popular spreadsheet applications, like Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets. Your formulas have the ability to perform arithmetic operations, make comparisons, and call a set of functions. Learn more about the different formula functions you can use in Zaps.

If you are trying to evaluate data that is text (not numbers), you must wrap any and all text strings in "double quotes", or the Formatter will return with an error.

1. Add a Formatter step

  • Click + to add a new step
  • Select Formatter
  • From there, select Numbers.

Selecting Formatter and then Numbers within the Zap Editor

2. Select Transform

Now to select your Transform as Spreadsheet-Style Formula

3. Set your formula

Once you’ve selected the Transform, you will then want to input your formula using data from previous steps to create your formula.

There are different types of functions you can perform, either formula function, formula arithmetic and formula comparisons. View a list of all functions.

In this example, I want to find out if both the name and first name from my contacts are the same value

Once you’re happy with your formula, click the Continue button to move onto the next step.

4. Test your formula

Lastly, to test if your formula is set up to output what you expected.

  • Click Test & Review.
  • If you are happy with the results, click Done Editing to continue with the rest of your setup.

If the output equals false, then both values don't match. If the output equals true this means both values match. Following our previous example, as I’m looking to see if the first and last name is the same value, I’m expecting the test to output “false”. If it was to output “true” this would mean that both values match each other.

Once you’ve set your sheet up, you’re ready to continue setting up the rest of your Zap.
