The vision for Zapier has always been to make your business more productive and save you time. And today we’ve added a new feature to prevent you from losing any critical data you have running within Zapier.

We’re thrilled to announce that Zapier will no longer pause your Zaps when you reach your plan limit, have expired authentications, or run into errors with your payments. Instead, Zapier will now hold your Tasks and let you release them from your Task History when the problem is resolved—preventing you from losing any data.

Let’s look at an example

Say you have a Zap to add new starred Gmail emails to Evernote and your Evernote connection expires. Instead of pausing the entire Zap which would no longer track any starred emails, Zapier will start holding the Zap’s tasks until you reconnect your Evernote account.

This way, once you reconnect your account you’ll be able to play all the Tasks that were previously unable to run from your Tasks History. You can choose to play them individually or in bulk by selecting up to 5,000 Tasks at a time with the top left selector. You can also download your held Tasks to a CSV or delete them if you no longer need those Tasks to run after you resolve the problem.

Please note: Zapier will still pause your Zaps for the following reasons:

  • You downgraded your account and Zaps exceed your limits.
  • You made changes to a Zap while editing in the builder.
  • Your Zap runs into an error involving missing or invalid data.

How do held Tasks behave in my Task History?

In your Task History, held tasks will behave like any other Task but with a new held status. You can use the Play Task action in the same way you can replay a Task that has stopped due to an error. You’ll also see more information about why your Tasks were held.

How do I know if I have held Tasks?

If we hold any of your Tasks, we'll send you an email to let you know. You'll also see a label beside any Zap with held Tasks in your dashboard with a link to view the Tasks.

This will take you to your Task History to learn more about the issue holding up your Tasks and give you the option to release them.
